One Week Left

One week left and it's done.
On one side I'm really happy and excited to see everybody in France but on the other side, I feel kind of sad to leave all the people that I met here in Canada. I just don't want to leave them, it was so fun !
Everything was really really fast !
Anyway, this trip is a very big and very good memory,
that I'm gonna keep for a while !

NASCAR !

Friday evening, I went to a Nascar race,
it was really fun !
There were two kinds of car, the first one was really fast and made a huge noise, the second one was a little bit less fast but still loud ( many people use ears plugs because it's really loud especially in the turn where the cars are speeding ). To answer to my Dad, Nascar races are pretty expensive in Canada ,
it was around forty or forty-five box per adult . How long is a Nascar race ?
Actually there is about 10 races and it's not always the same time because there are different levels. But the one that I saw, are a pretty small level and they were driving fifty kilometers ( which means fifty laps ) and during about twenty minutes.

That's how the cars start, they can't start alone because they don't have the electricity thing who is required.

I couldn't put the video that I taped during the race, because they are too long and the blog doesn't support big videos. Sorry about that. =(

Terry Fox

Do you know Terry Fox ?

Terry Fox is a really famous guy in Canada.

He was born in 1958, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. When he was a child, he loved practising sports. Unfortunately, when he was 18 years old, doctors detected that he had cancer in his right leg, they had to amputate his leg higher than his knee. However, Terry didn't give up, he said he was lucky because his cancer had disapeared thanks to his amputation. In consequence, he made a plan to help other people who had cancer. He decided to raise one dollar per inhabitant of Canada by running across this same country. At this time, Canada counted about 24 millions inhabitants. He trained for one year before start his huge Marathon. "The Marathon of Hope" started at St. John's, Terre-Neuve. Terry ran 42 kilometers ( the distance of a typical marathon ) every day ! Once he arrived in Sudbury ( half way of the Marathon ), the race was very famous. Unfortunately, doctors discovered that his brain had cancer too. Terry had to stop to take care of himself.
The Canadian population was marked by this bad news and decided to continue this Marathon in memory of Terry. Thus, everybody continued to raise money throughout Canada. About $24.17 million was collected. Terry was really happy and proud, he accomplished his goal.
Unfortunately he died on the 28th of June, 1981. Three months later, the 13th September in 1981, took place the first Terry Fox run. More than 300 000 Canadians participated and raised $3.5 million more.
Since this time, the Terry Fox run takes place every year on the second sunday of May.
The Terry Fox school day takes place the last friday of September.
In total, more than 400 million dollars has been raised for Terry until now !

Yesterday, I did the Terry Fox run at school, it was fun !

Already One Month

I can't believe that Aloïs and I are in Canada since One month already! It past really really fast!

Lunch Bag

Today, I introduce you the Lunch Bag !
In Canada, there is usually no canteen at school, so everybody bring his Lunch Bag. In there you have two snacks ( usually some cereale bars or stuff like that and two juice boxes ) and your lunch ( ham sandwich or tacos with meat, it's not the same meat everyday so...).
That's an another big difference between France and Canada !

The typical school day in London.

A typical Monday school day in my school :
We get up at 7h30 a.m to take the bus at 8h30 ( The bus stop is at about one hundred meters from the house ). The bus riding is 15 minutes long,
so we arrive at school at 8h45.
Then we talk with friends until the bell, which means about five minutes.
After that I have French from 8h50 to 10h30 ( during this subject my teacher gives me some english exercises ), recess from 10h15 to 10h40, Math from 10h40 to 11h20 and then, to finish the morning, Science until 12h00.
At noon we have fifteen minutes to eat ( that's a BIG difference between France and Canada ! ) then we have a recess during fourty minutes, that's when we play american football ( really fun times ).
For the afternoon, I restart lessons by History/Geography at 12h55 p.m until 2h15. At 2h15 we have a little snack during five minutes.
Next we have Religion from 2h20 to 2h55 and then we have twenty minutes to do our homework or play with friends if we are done.
Finally, we take the bus at 3h30 and arrive at home at 4h00 to have a little snack and do our homeworks.
( In Canada you have a little snack at every recess !)
If you want some more informations just ask me.

Back To School !

Today was my fisrt day at school in Canada !
It was pretty cool but a little bit tiring because we had to get up at 7h20 a.m. I'm in a French Immersion School, the teachers combine the two languages and try to speak the level of french that the class understands in all grades, for exemple in grade 8 they speak french almost all the time. There is 8 grade, the first grade it's for the kids who are 6 ( Like Taylor the little sister in the family ) and the last grade his for the people who are 13 and 14. Lessons start at 8h50 until 12h and in the afternoon 1.00 p.m to 3.30 p.m and then we have one break in the morning and one in the afternoon. Starting at 12 o'clock, we have 15 minutes to eat, then we have 40 minutes of reccess. An another difference, in Canada you stay all the time in the same room and we also have our lunch and snacks in this room.

Rafting

Yesterday I went to Paris ( in Ontario, I know it's weird but it's true ^^) to raft. We went on the Grand River during 3 hours and a half, it was really calm and lazy. There weren't a lot of rapids, maybe 3 or 4 in all the trip, so it was very quiet. We were with Roger ( the boat coach ). Somewhere we went in a cave, the hole was really small but the cave was 22 meters long. When we went in, it was really strangeand dark but very funny!

Baseball Game !

Saturday evening I saw a Baseball Games :

The Majors of London against The Red Sox from Brandford !
The atmosphere was really good and London won 2-0, it was a great time !

Camping

I came back from the Camp Cape Crocker.
There was a celebration of Native culture called Pow Wow. I saw a lot of dances and they were druming. The costumes were georgeous, a lot of colours, accesories...
Also we went hiking to The Caves ( It's some big rocks that fell down from a cliff that created some caves ).
